Vapaapäivä Lontoossa

Tämän viikon maanantaina heräsin Ashleyn kanssa tämän siskon luota Lontoosta. Olimme ajaneet sinne edellisenä iltana. Meillä molemmilla oli vapaapäivä ja päätimme lähteä metrolla Lontoon keskustaan tutkimaan museoita. Otimme aamun silti rennosti ennen kun kello löi kymmentä. Aamupalan ja monien teekuppien jälkeen Ashleyn sisko heitti meidät metroasemalle pienessä lumisateessa.

We woke up at Ash's sister's place in London this Monday. We had driven there the night before. Ash and I both had a day off on Monday so we decided to go for a little museum trip in central London. Despite this, we had quite a slow morning. We didn't want to hurry. We had breakfast and tea before 10am & after that Ash's sister took us to the tube station. 

Lontoon keskustaan päästyämme kävelimme South Kensington -asemalta Science Museoon, jossa en itse ollut koskaan ollut aikaisemmin. Lähes kaikki museot Lontoossa ovat ilmaisia, joten sateisille tai lumisille päiville nuo ilmaiset suuret museot ovat hyviä! Maanantai oli jokseenkin kylmä ja luminen. Itse jäädyin mun pienessä punaisessa kevyttoppatakissa. Katselin kateellisena Ashleyn lämmintä talvitakkia, haha.

When we arrived at central London we walked from South Kensington station to Science Museum. It was my first time there ever! Most of the museums are free in London so if the day is rainy or snowy those big & free museums are really great places to explore! This Monday was very chilly and snowy. I was freezing in my red light winter jacket. I remember watching Ash in his proper warm winter coat and feeling jealous, haha.    

Museo ei loppujen lopuksi ollut niin kiinnostava kuin olin ajatellut. Kävimme kaikki ilmaiset näyttelyt läpi ja joihinkin yksittäisiin jäimme hieman kauemmaksi aikaa. Itseäni kiinnosti lähinnä lääketieteen historia näin terveystiedon ja biologian lukiossa kirjoittaneena. Museossa oli lisäksi avaruus, tulevaisuus, menneisyys, kello -sekä lentoteemaisia näyttelyitä. Menneisyysosiossa oli esillä paljon vanhoja esineitä kuten esimerkiksi leluja, ruohonleikkureita, kodinkoneita, puhelimia ja vauvatarvikkeita.

In a nutshell, the museum wasn't as good as I expected. We went through all the free exhibitions they had there. I was mainly interested in medical history as I did two out my five final exams on Biology and Health about a year ago. They also had space, future, past, clock and flying themed exhibitions. In the past section, which was called Making the Modern World, they had a lot of old stuff, for example, toys, lawnmowers, household appliances, mobile phones and baby supplies. 

Kun pääsimme museosta ulos muutaman tunnin jälkeen, ulkona pyrytti lunta kuin konsanaan. Hyppäsimme takaisin metroon ja matkustimme muutaman pysäkin Soho -alueelle. Ashley halusi viedä mut erääseen meksikolaiseen ravintolaan, jossa hän oli kerran ollut ennenkin ja muisteli siellä olevan hyvää ruokaa.

Kello oli lähemmäs kolmea, kun me löysimme tämän kyseisen ravintolan. Astuessamme sisään meille kerrottiin, että ravintolan alakerta ei ollut avoinna. Yläkerrassa oli noin neljä pöytää ja asiakkaita ei ollut ollenkaan. Istuimme kuitenkin alas ja tilasimme. Ruoan tullessa olimme hyvin hämmentyineitä annosten koista.

A couple hours later we came out of the museum. It was snowing a lot. Those snowflakes were really big! We walked back to the underground and took Piccadilly line to Soho. Ashley wanted to take me to this one great Mexican restaurant and we started to look for it in the cold.

It was about 3 o'clock when we finally found our way to the restaurant. When stepping inside the staff told us that the downstairs of this restaurant was closed & that we needed to eat upstairs. We agreed to do so, sat down and ordered our meals. When our food arrived we were really surprised by the portions of those dishes.

Ash oli kysynyt tarjoilijalta tilatessaan, että kuinka isot menussa olleet tapas nachot olisivat. Tarjoilija oli kertonut niiden olevan melko pieniä ja näyttänyt käsilläänkin vielä erikseen. Ash oli tilannut tyytyväisenä meille molemmille omat pääruokien lisäksi. Kävi ilmi, että nuo nacholautaset olivat aivan älyttömän isoja. Itse  päätin syödä pääruoan ensin, mutta en pystynyt et sitä kaikkea syömään. Olimme tilanneet jälleen kerran liikaa ruokaa (meille usein käy näin...), haha. Ruoka oli kuitenkin hyvin maukasta huolimatta siitä, että Ashleyn burrito oli melko kylmä keskeltä!

Ash had asked about the portion sizes of the tapas nachos we wanted to order. The waitress had told him that them portions were quite small. He had showed the size with his hands as well. Ashley ordered 2 tapas nachos but the portions ended up being very large. We had our main meals and those nachos as side dishes... Unfortunately, I didn't even touch my nachos because I wasn't even able to finish my main meal. Once again we had ordered too much food (this happens quite often...), haha. Anyhow, the food was very tasty even though the burrito Ashley had ordered was quite cold from the middle! 

Jonkin ajan päästä lähdimme meidän nachojen kanssa kävelemään Lontoon maanantai-iltapäivään. Päädyimme Carnaby Street -nimiselle kadulle, joka on täynnä vaate, kosmetiikka -ja kenkäkauppoja. Oli melko viileää ja kävimme muutamassa kaupassa katselemassa tarjontaa. Päädyimme kuitenkin jonkin ajan päästä lähtemään metrolla takaisin Ashleyn siskon luokse. Päivä oli todella mukava vaikka melko rento. Oli ihanaa päästä jälleen Lontooseen muutaman kuukauden jälkeen!

After awhile, we left that Mexican restaurant with our nachos and decided to walk in London's Monday afternoon for a little while. We ended up to Carnaby Street which is full of clothing, cosmetics and shoe shops. The weather was still very chilly. We went inside some of those shops to see what they had on sale but went back to Ashley's sister's quite quickly after that. The day was so nice & very casual. It was so lovely to visit London again after months!
