Eläintarhassa talvella

En kyllä olisi arvannut, että menisin tämän vuoden ensimmäisellä viikolla eläintarhaan! Niin siinä kuitenkin kävi, haha. Viime lauantaina saimme Ashleyn kanssa päähämme, että voisimme käväistä kahdestaan eläintarhassa. Idea oli lähinnä Ashleyn, sillä itse en tiennyt, että täällä Englannissa olisi montakin eläintarhaa. Tiesin vain Lontoon eläintarhan.

To be honest, I didn't expect to visit a zoo on the first week of this year but I still did, haha. We were thinking of places to go on last week's Saturday. It was mainly Ashley's idea to go & explore the nearest zoo. I wasn't aware of the zoo we ended up visiting. I just knew the one in London.

En ole koskaan ollut mikään eläintarhojen ystävä, vaikka eläimistä kovasti pidänkin. Jos totta puhutaan, pystyn laskemaan mun eläintarhassa käynnit yhden käden sormilla, haha. Kun kuulin, että tässä kyseisessä eläintarhassa olisi kirahveja, olin heti todella innoissani. Olen aina halunnut nähdä kirahvin livenä. Tiedän, että se on aivan erilaista nähdä kirahvi eläintarhan aitauksessa kuin vapaana esimerkiksi Afrikassa. Tässä vaiheessa sillä ei kuitenkaan mulle ollut mitään väliä!

I've never really been a fan of zoos even though I like & care about animals a lot. To be honest, I have visited a zoo just a couple of times in my life, haha. When I heard that the zoo we ended up visiting has giraffes, I was more that ready to go! I had dreamed of seeing a giraffe in a real life as long as I can remember. I know that it's totally different to see those creatures in a zoo than in African wildlife for example. The most important thing for me was the animal not the environment really.

Sunnuntai aamupäivällä me hyppäsimme autoon ja ajoimme noin tunnin päähän sijaitsevaan Port Lympne -eläintarhaan. Paikka oli aivan keskellä ei mitään. Sieltä näki kuitenkin meren ja sen aallot. Päivä oli todella kaunis ja aurinkoinen. Eläintarhan sijainti meren vieressä vaikutti kuitenkin tuuleen sen verran, että ilma oli 5 astetta plussan puolella, jos oikein muistan.

The next morning we drove to the Port Lympne Wild Animal Park which was located about an hour away from us. The place was in the middle of nowhere to be honest. You were able to see the see and its waves from the zoo though. The day was very nice and sunny but windy too. If I remember correctly, the temperature was about 5 degrees.

Englannissa ei ole susia vapaana ollenkaan, joten eläintarha on ainut paikka, jossa niitä voi nähdä. Se oli eka kerta, kun itse näin suden omin silmin. Ne kolme sutta juoksentelivat ympäriinsä aitauksessa kuin koirat konsanaan. Sitä niiden leikkiä oli mukava katsella ja ne oli jotenkin suloisen ja ystävällisen näköisiä. Samalla alueella oli nähtävissä myös kaksi tiikeriä, mutta molemmat olivat menneet tuulelta suojaan. Me näimme ne kuitenkin uudestaan hieman ennen eläintarhasta lähtemistä. Molemmat olivat niin komeita, että jäimme vain katselemaan niitä varmasti melkein vartiksi, haha.

Wolves aren't a part of UK's wildlife anymore. If you want to see them, you need to go to a zoo. Even though we have wolves in Finland, it was my first time seeing them in real life... They had 3 wolves at Port Lympne Zoo. Those wolves were running around just like dogs would do! It was nice to look at them playing with each other. Those wolves looked very cute and kind of friendly in my opinion. They also had 2 tigers on the same area of the zoo but we weren't able to see them at first. They were hiding from the wind. We visited the tigers again right before we left the zoo in the evening. That time we were able to go were close to them. Both of the tigers were totally handsome & we just looked at them for a good fifteen minutes at least, haha.

Monet eläimistä olivat vapaina niin sanotulla safari-alueella. Alueella kuljettiin suurilla maastoautoilla, jotka olivat kuskin mukaan olleet alunperin armeijan käytössä. Safari-alueella me pääsimme näkemään muun muassa antilooppeja, seeproja, strutseja, kameleita, puhveleita, peuroja ja kirahveja! Olin niin onnellinen nähdessäni ne kirahvit, jotka sillä safarilla oli!

Most of the animals were on a so called "Safari area". We drove around that area on this big green jeep that made a lot of noise, haha. We were able to see, inter alia, antelopes, zebras ostriches, camels, buffalos, deers and giraffes! I was so happy seeing those gorgeous creatures that they had!

Eläintarhassa oli myös muun muassa apinoita, leijonia sekä kissoja. Monet eläimet olivat kuitenkin piilossa kylmyydeltä, joten ei esimerkiksi nähty leijonia ollenkaan... Maailman pienin kissa me kuitenkin bongasimme. Vietimme aikaa eläintarhassa kahdesta kolmeen tuntiin. Näimme lähes kaiken, mitä halusimmekin. Kävimme myös lähinnä lapsille suunnatussa dinosaurusmetsässä, haha. Harmiksemme kaikki kahvilat olivat suljettu, joten jouduimme olemaan ilman lämpimiä juomia... muuten paikka oli todella mukava. Kesällä varmasti tapahtumarikkaampi ja kauniimpi!

At the Port Lympne Zoo they also had, inter alia, monkeys, lions and cats. A lot of the animals were hiding from the cold and that is why we didn't see lions for example... For our surprise we saw the world's smallest cat! It looked like a kitten. Cute! We ended up spending 2-3 hours at the zoo and seeing almost everything we wanted to. We also visited a Dinosaur Forest which was full of dinosaur statues, haha. I reckon the forest was mainly made for children. All of the little coffee shops at the zoo area were closed which was a shame... we ended up freezing, haha. Otherwise Port Lympne Wild Animal Park was a really nice place. I'm quite sure the zoo is so much better in summer!
