Joulunvietto Englannissa
Enää yksi yö jouluun! Mulle se on hassua, että täällä vietetään joulua joulukuun 25. päivä tämän päivän sijaan. 25. päivä kaikki saa lahjat, syödään jouluateria ja niin edelleen. Mulle on myös hassua se, että joulupukki lentää yöllä talojen katolle, menee sisälle savupiipusta ja jättää lahjat kuusen alle. Hassuinta on se, että pukki lentää sen reen kanssa! Katsottiin Ashleyn kanssa Napapiirin pikajuna -elokuva ja aloin nauramaan pukin noustessa reellä ilmaan, haha. Tuo pukin lentäminen on mulle yhtä hassua kuin englantilaisille se, että pukki tuo Suomessa lahjat lapsille henkilökohtaisesti. Odotan innolla, minkälaisia jouluperinteitä täällä Englannissa on, sillä en itse niihin ole niinkään perehtynyt!

It's Christmas tomorrow! I find it funny that they spend Christmas here on the 25th of December (when in Finland we spend it today). December 25th is the day when you open all the presents, eat glorious Christmas dinner etc. I also find it funny that Father Christmas comes to your house while you're sleeping, uses the chimney to enter the house and leaves Christmas presents under the Christmas tree. The funniest thing is that Santa flies with his reindeer and sleigh! Ashley and I were watching Polar Express the other day. I just bursted out laughing in the end of the film when Father Christmas gets into his sleigh and flies away, haha. To be honest, this whole thing must be as funny to me as some Finnish Christmas traditions are for English people. In Finland Santa delivers Christmas presents personally for children. This fact has been quite funny & rather strange here, haha. Nevertheless, I'm really excited to spend Christmas here and get familiar with English Christmas traditions!
Mun host-perhellä on oikea joulukuusi ja olen siitä niin iloinen! Meidän perheellä on ollut tekokuusi niin kauan kuin muistan. Yksi syy siihen on ollut perheen pienet lapset. Meidän nuorin on kuitenkin tällä hetkellä jo 9 vuotta, haha. Onhan se oikean kuusen neulasten lattialta keräily hieman ärsyttävää, mutta kuusen tuoksu on tuon siivoamisen arvoista!
Ashleyn perheellä on myös oikea kuusi. Pääsin mukaan joulukuusifarmille sitä hakemaan. Se oli mun eka kerta, kun vierailin sellaisessa paikassa. Ashleyn sisko valitsi meille komean kuusen ja myöhemmin me kirjaimellisesti täytettiin se koristeilla. Tuskin itse sitä kuusta näki! Ashleyn perheen kissat piti siitä kuusesta niin paljon, että toinen kiipesi melkein sen latvaan saakka, kun ihmisten silmä hieman vältti!

My host family has a real spruce as their Christmas tree and I'm so happy about that! My family has had a fake one as long as I can remember. One of the reasons for that has been my little siblings. When you have a baby or a toddler in the house, they tend to eat the spruce needles which fall on the floor. My youngest sibling is 9-year-old at the moment and we still have a fake tree, haha. I've to admit that it's frustrating to clean up those needles but it's worth of the smell that a real tree has!
Ashley's family has a real Christmas tree as well. I was able to go to the Christmas tree farm last week with them. It was my first time visiting a Christmas tree farm. Ash's sister chose a beautiful tree for us and later on that day we literally covered it in lights, tinsels and Christmas ornaments. You weren't really able to see the actual tree anymore! Ashley's cats really liked the tree and one of them climbed up to the half way when no one was watching, haha.
Joka vuosi telkkarista näytetään Lumiukko -lyhytelokuva ja ainakin meidän perheessä on ollut tapana katsoa se koko porukalla. Muutama vuosi sitten julkaistiin Lumiukko ja lumikoira -lyhytelokuva, joka on jatkoa edelliselle. Siitä lähtien ollaan katsottu nuo molemmat aina putkeen. Molemmat ovat todella koskettavia ainakin mun mielestä ja joka vuosi oon kyyneleet silmissä niiden loputtua. Vaikka molemmissa lyhytelokuvissa on hyvin yksinkertainen juoni, rakastan niiden animaatiota ja musiikkia. Olin huvittavasti ihan fiiliksissä, kun löysin tänä vuonna Lumiukko ja lumikoira -joulukalenterin, haha.

Every year they show The Snowman short film on tv (in Finland). Over the years it has become a tradition in our family to watch it together. A couple of years ago The Snowman and The Snowdog was released and we've watched that too ever since. They're both really touching short films (at least I think so) and every time I end up in tears. Even though both of the films have really simple plots, I still love the animation and music. I was so excited when I found The Snowman and The Snowdog Advent Calendar this year, haha.
Mun työt ovat tältä vuodelta loppuneet ja eilen saavuin Ashleyn perheen luokse. Mun host-perhe lähti sukulaisille eilen illalla ja me tullaan näkemään toisiamme vasta ensi vuoden puolella. Olen jostain syystä todella innoissani tästä joulusta. Musta tuntuu, että mun host-perheen lapset ovat saaneet mut odottamaan joulua entistä enemmän. Onhan joulu nyt kuitenkin jo ollut puheenaiheena viimeiset 4-5 viikkoa, haha. En millään jaksaisi odottaa huomista. Haluisin antaa kaikki mun ostamat lahjat jo kaikille tässä huushollissa, haha.

I'm finished with work & have 2.5 weeks off for now on. I arrived at Ashley's yesterday. My host family left to see their relatives last night. We'll see each other next time after this New Year. I don't really know why I have been super excited about this Christmas. Maybe the boys I'm looking after have made me more excited. We have been talking about Christmas for the last 4-5 weeks, haha. I can't wait for tomorrow! I would like to give all the presents for Ash & his family already, haha.
